The class was given a part of David Rothenberg's, "Spontaneous Effort", an essay about improvisation in life to develop into a book. We were to choose one item out of a selection of household items to use as inspiration for imagery for the book. I choose Legos and originally used photos of the Legos but the photos were old, beat up, and not as vibrant as they once were. I decided to "improvise" and use shapes to represent the legos, which allowed me to choose more vibrant colors. In early drafts, too much of too many colors felt overwhelming to look at, so I paced the book by balancing the amount of text on each spread, that amount of color on each spread, and how many colors were on each spread.
